December Update

Follow up on last movie “Good Ol Freda ”

Good attendance with 24 members for our last movie of 2017.

This was a great documentary about Freda Kelly and her time as the secretary of the Beatles right from the start. There were lots of old original photos from the early days of them starting as an unknown band in Liverpool and footage of their very first performances. Every member I talked to after the movie mentioned how much they did enjoy Freda’s very personal stories about the Beatles.

It was also quite a coincidence that Paul McCartney was touring Australia at the same time.

Our next film on the 2nd of January is the 1975 drama One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nestdirected by . Milos Forman.

When Randle Patrick McMurphy (Jack Nicolson) is transferred for evaluation from a prison farm to a mental institution, he assumes it will be to a less restrictive environment. But Nurse Ratched runs the ward with an iron fist, keeping her patients cowed through abuse, medication, and sessions of electroconvulsant shock therapy. The battle of wills between the rebellious McMurphy and the inflexible Ratched soon affects all of the patients in the ward. The film is based on the novel written in 1962 by Ken Kesey, which explores the ways authorities control individuals, and in particular likens the mental ward to a prison as a means of oppression.

The film won 5 Academy Awards.

So all the best for the festive season and hope to see you all on the 2nd of January for our first movie of the year.
